Creative Writing for Middle Schoolers

Tuesday, June 27, 2017 4-weeks; Tuesday, June 27; July 11, 18, 25; 6PM-8PM Town & Country (specific location provided upon registration) 127.00

This workshop for middle school students (rising 6th through 8th grades) will teach enthusiastic young writers how to identify the key elements of exceptional prose and how to develop those elements in their own writing. With each week focusing on a different core feature of fiction, this course will use selected readings to explore what it means to “read like a writer” and guide students through fun in-class writing activities designed to put what they’re learning into practice. A supportive workshop environment will empower students to revise their own writing as they gain valuable experience providing and accepting constructive feedback from their peers.¬† Students should be prepared with an original work of fiction (no more than 15 pages) that they wish to workshop during the course. Participants will be invited to present their work at a public reading at the end of the session. Taught by Emily Grise, this 4-week workshop is¬†limited to 8 participants.
